BJP’s Criticism of Congress on 49th Emergency Anniversary

On the 49th anniversary of the Emergency, the BJP launched a scathing attack on the Congress, accusing them of undermining democracy and constitutional values. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other BJP leaders highlighted how the Emergency period saw the suspension of civil liberties, censorship of media, and suppression of dissenting voices. PM Modi emphasized that those who imposed the Emergency have no right to profess love for the Constitution, citing instances of Article 356 misuse and assaults on federalism.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah condemned the Congress for its “arrogant and autocratic” governance during the Emergency, which he said aimed to perpetuate power for one family. BJP President J.P. Nadda criticized the Congress for disregarding constitutional principles and suppressing democratic voices. The BJP’s stance reflects its commitment to safeguarding democracy and upholding constitutional values, contrasting sharply with its portrayal of the Congress as antithetical to these ideals.
