Congress Support Strengthens TVK Government Bid
Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), led by actor-politician Vijay, has emerged as the single largest party in the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections by winning 108 seats in its debut electoral contest.
This remarkable victory has made TVK a major new political force in the state, breaking the long-standing dominance of traditional Dravidian parties.
However, despite becoming the largest party, TVK has not yet reached the 118-seat majority mark required to independently form the government in the 234-member Assembly.
As a result, the party now depends on support from other political parties and independent MLAs to secure power.
In a significant political development, the Congress party, which has five MLAs, officially announced its support for TVK.
This decision has strengthened Vijay’s position and increased TVK’s support base in the Assembly.
With Congress backing, TVK has moved closer to the majority mark, though it still requires additional support from a few more legislators to comfortably form the government.
Political observers say Congress’s support could play a crucial role in shaping the future government of Tamil Nadu.
TVK is also expected to continue discussions with smaller parties and independents to gather the remaining numbers needed.
The election outcome has created a highly competitive political environment, with alliance negotiations becoming key to government formation.
Vijay’s rapid rise in politics has surprised many analysts, and his party’s success is being seen as one of the most dramatic shifts in recent Tamil Nadu political history.
As support continues to build, TVK remains focused on securing enough legislative backing to officially claim power.
