Fatal Landslide Caused by Heavy Rains Claims Lives in Bangladesh’s Chattogram

A man and his seven-month-old daughter lost their lives in a tragic landslide triggered by heavy rains in the seaport city of Chattogram, Bangladesh. The incident occurred as Md Sohel, 35, and his daughter Bibi Jannat were killed due to the landslide in houses with thatched roofs situated at the base of a hill. The Chattogram Divisional Fire Service conducted rescue efforts to locate missing individuals but ultimately concluded their operations.

Persistent downpours and flash floods have affected the region, causing flooding in parts of Chattogram. The city experienced five days of continuous rainfall prior to the landslide incident, following a pattern of recurring heavy rain this month. Earlier, authorities had evacuated people from at-risk hill areas due to the potential for landslides.
