Gujarat Bridge Collapse: Bail Denied to Oreva Group CMD Jaysukh Patel

The Gujarat High Court rejected the regular bail plea of Jaysukh Patel, CMD of Oreva Group and the main accused in the October 2022 Morbi suspension bridge collapse that claimed 135 lives. Patel, whose firm was responsible for the bridge’s operation and maintenance, has been in custody since his surrender in January.

The bridge collapsed on October 30, 2022, resulting in multiple fatalities and injuries. Patel and nine others face charges under various sections of the Indian Penal Code related to culpable homicide, attempt to commit culpable homicide, and acts endangering human life. With Patel’s bail denied, four out of the ten accused are now in custody. The Oreva Group had the operation and maintenance contract for the British-era suspension bridge.
