India Wins Women’s T20 Asia Cup
India’s women’s cricket team produced an impressive all-round performance to win the Women’s T20 Asia Cup 2026. Led by Harmanpreet Kaur, India defeated Sri Lanka by 72 runs in the final at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium and lifted the Asia Cup trophy for the eighth time.
India were strong in both batting and bowling throughout the tournament. Their batters consistently scored quickly, while the bowlers put pressure on opponents by taking wickets at important moments.
India had the best batting performance among the teams in the competition. They scored at an average rate of 8.35 runs per ball, showing their attacking approach. The team also hit 32 sixes, compared with 22 sixes by all the other teams combined.
India’s bowling unit was equally impressive. The bowlers finished the tournament with the best average and economy rate. Young spinner Shree Charani had a remarkable tournament, taking 39 wickets in 2026 and breaking previous records. Experienced all-rounder Deepti Sharma also made a major contribution, taking 30 wickets.
Fielding was one area where India struggled. The team dropped more catches than any other side during the tournament. However, their excellent batting and bowling performances helped them overcome this weakness and remain the strongest team in the competition.
Strong Start in the Final
India won the toss and produced a powerful batting display. Openers Smriti Mandhana and Shafali Verma gave the team an excellent start and added 129 runs together. Their partnership helped India build a strong foundation.
India eventually finished their 20 overs at 183/5, giving Sri Lanka a target of 184 runs. While several Indian batters could not score big runs, Bharti Fulmali played a quick and useful innings that helped India finish strongly.
Sri Lanka needed a good start to chase the target but quickly lost wickets. India’s bowlers continued to apply pressure and prevented the Sri Lankan batters from building a strong partnership.
Charani Leads the Bowling Attack
Shree Charani was one of the biggest stars of the final. She produced an excellent bowling spell, taking 4 wickets for just 20 runs. Her performance made the chase even more difficult for Sri Lanka.
Sri Lanka were unable to recover from their early setbacks and eventually finished well short of the target. India completed a comfortable 72-run victory and secured their eighth Asia Cup title.
Sri Lanka’s bowlers, including Mithali Ayodhya and Chamari Athapaththu, tried to restrict India’s scoring but could not prevent the Indian batters from posting a challenging total.
India Stand Out as Champions
India’s success in the tournament was built on their strong combination of batting and bowling. Despite some problems in the field, they consistently performed better than their opponents and remained unbeaten throughout the competition.
The victory under Harmanpreet Kaur adds another major achievement to Indian women’s cricket. With strong performances from experienced players such as Smriti Mandhana and Deepti Sharma, along with emerging talents like Shree Charani, India have shown that they have a well-balanced team capable of competing at the highest level.
