India’s Election Credibility at Risk?

Voting has ended in several major Indian states and union territories, including Assam, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, West Bengal, and Puducherry, bringing major political changes across the country.

The election results have reshaped the political landscape in many regions.

In West Bengal, the BJP made significant gains, strengthening its position in a state where political competition remains intense. In Assam, the BJP managed to retain power, continuing its hold in the northeastern state.

Tamil Nadu witnessed one of the biggest surprises of the election, as actor-turned-politician Vijay’s newly launched party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), emerged as the single largest party. This result has dramatically changed the state’s traditional political balance and signaled a major shift in voter preferences.

In Kerala and Puducherry, no clear single-party dominance has emerged, leading to active alliance-building efforts as political parties negotiate to form stable governments.

While the elections have produced dramatic political outcomes, they have also triggered fresh controversies.

Questions are now being raised by political parties, activists, and sections of the public regarding the fairness and transparency of the electoral process.

One major issue involves voter list revisions, with concerns over how electoral rolls were updated and whether eligible voters were excluded or wrongly included.

There are also debates surrounding future electoral boundary changes, known as delimitation, with critics worried that such changes could politically benefit certain parties.

In addition, doubts about the reliability and transparency of Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) have resurfaced, with some opposition voices demanding greater scrutiny or alternative voting methods.

Despite assurances from election authorities about the integrity of the process, the controversies have created uncertainty and political tension in the aftermath of the polls.
