Progress Underway: Highways Department Initiates Subway Construction at Wimco Nagar

With the initiation of construction by the Highways Department, progress is underway on the subway project near Wimco Nagar railway station in Tiruvottiyur. The project, costing ₹25.09 crore, includes various components such as approaches, service lanes, a sump, a motor room, and lighting equipment installation. Following the completion of the Southern Railway’s portion in October 2023, tenders were floated for the department’s work.

Land acquisition has been completed, ensuring no delays in the project timeline. Scheduled for completion in 18 months, the 7.5 m wide subway aims to close level crossing 4 on the Gummidipoondi line, benefiting motorists and reducing travel time in the area. Residents anticipate its successful completion while urging authorities to ensure the subway remains flood-free during heavy rains to avoid traffic disruptions.
