Shadab Khan Misses Pakistan ODI Tri-Series Final Due to Illness
Pakistan all-rounder Shadab Khan missed the ODI Tri-Series final against Sri Lanka after falling ill on the day of the match. His absence was a setback for Pakistan, as he had played an important role in the team’s successful campaign and helped them secure three victories in the series.
Shadab delivered several important performances during the tournament. One of his most memorable contributions came in Pakistan’s third match against England, where he scored an unbeaten 113 runs. His innings helped Pakistan make a remarkable comeback after being in a difficult position. He also shared a crucial partnership with Haris Rauf, which became one of the highest last-wicket partnerships in ODI history.
Before the final, Pakistan won the toss and decided to bowl first against Sri Lanka. During the match, Ben Duckett produced an impressive century to help his side reach a total of 241 runs. Pakistan’s bowling attack faced challenges in controlling England’s batting, while the team also had to manage Shadab’s unexpected absence.
Shadab was not included in Pakistan’s playing XI because of his illness, and Faheem Ashraf took his place. Pakistan’s batting order then struggled against the bowling of Jamie Overton and Liam Dawson. The team slipped from 74/3 to 154/9, putting them under significant pressure during the chase.
Images from the stadium showed Shadab sitting alone in the pavilion and watching his teammates compete in the final. His absence attracted attention because of his important contributions throughout the series.
Pakistan had entered the final with strong confidence after winning three matches in the tournament. Their only defeat in the series had come against Sri Lanka in a match in which Pakistan batted first.
Both teams featured several well-known players. Sri Lanka’s squad included Avishka Fernando and Kamindu Mendis, while Pakistan’s lineup featured experienced players such as Fakhar Zaman, Babar Azam and Shaheen Shah Afridi.
Shadab’s absence was an important talking point ahead of the final, as Pakistan missed one of their key all-rounders in a crucial match. His performances earlier in the series had played a major role in helping Pakistan reach the title decider.
