Supreme Court Addresses Woman Advocate Assault

The Supreme Court of India took action on April 27, 2026, in a serious case where a woman lawyer was violently attacked by her husband in New Delhi.

The Court ordered the Delhi Police Commissioner to transfer the investigation to a senior officer. The Court said the case should preferably be handled by a woman officer of ACP or DCP rank to ensure proper and sensitive handling.

The Bench, led by Chief Justice Surya Kant and Justice Joymalya Bagchi, also raised concerns about the victim’s treatment after the incident.

The judges asked the investigating officer to find out why three hospitals refused to admit the injured woman. The Court wants a clear explanation for this, as denying medical care in such situations is a serious issue.

This case has drawn attention to both domestic violence and the responsibility of hospitals to provide emergency treatment. The Court’s directions aim to ensure a fair investigation and proper accountability.
