The Hindu-VIT Biotech Conclave in Chennai Explores Science Innovations

The Hindu-VIT Biotech Conclave 2026, held in Chennai, brought together experts from academia, research, and industry to discuss advancements in biotechnology and life sciences. The event, themed “Exploring New Frontiers in Science,” focused on topics like medical research, drug development, healthcare technologies, and turning scientific ideas into practical applications.

G. Viswanathan, founder of VIT, led the inaugural session, with Suchitra Ella of Bharat Biotech as the chief guest. Other attendees included N. Ram from The Hindu Group and L.V. Navaneeth, CEO of The Hindu. Suresh Nambath, editor of The Hindu, emphasized the importance of connecting scientific theories with real-world uses, especially in precision medicine.

Viswanathan highlighted the potential of gene editing and called for more support for education and research in India. G.V. Selvam from VIT discussed opportunities in drug discovery and innovation.

Suchitra Ella stressed the need for Indian companies to develop vaccines and treatments for global markets, particularly for infectious diseases. She also urged a focus on “One Health” and food security through life sciences.

N. Ram praised Viswanathan’s contributions to education and Ella’s work in vaccine development. He noted that the conclave aimed to inspire students by connecting them with industry leaders.

The event focused on how technology can improve healthcare, the importance of translational research, and the need for biotech students to take on diverse roles. The goal was to foster innovation and collaboration in India’s scientific community.
