US Approves Transfer of F-16 Fighter Jets to Ukraine from Denmark and Netherlands

The United States has granted approval for the transfer of American-made F-16 fighter jets from Denmark and the Netherlands to Ukraine, pending the completion of training for Ukrainian pilots, according to a State Department spokesperson. The US aims to help Ukraine take full advantage of its new capabilities. Denmark and the Netherlands are leading the training program for Ukrainian pilots on the F-16s, and the transfer will occur once the first group of pilots completes their training.

In addition to the fighter jets, the US has also approved the transfer of instructional materials, training modules, and documentation from Denmark to Ukraine. While the Dutch have operational F-16s that are scheduled for replacement, Denmark is planning to upgrade its fleet of F-16s. The move has been welcomed by Ukraine’s allies, including the Dutch and Danish foreign ministers.

An 11-member coalition of Ukraine’s Western allies will begin training Ukrainian pilots later this month, with the goal of having them ready for action next year.
