Kerala Police Warn About Fake Hospital Apps

The Kerala Police have warned the public about fake hospital booking apps and links being circulated through WhatsApp. These apps are designed to look like genuine hospital service platforms and can put users’ personal and financial information at risk.

According to the police warning, scammers may target people who search online for hospital services, appointments or other medical facilities. Misleading search results or messages can direct users to fake apps or websites that appear to be connected to hospitals.

Once users open these platforms, they may be asked to provide personal details such as their mobile phone number. The scammers may then request an OTP sent to the user’s phone, claiming that it is required to confirm a booking or access a hospital service.

Sharing an OTP can put a person’s financial accounts at risk. Scammers may use the information to carry out unauthorized UPI transactions or other fraudulent activities.

The police have advised people not to download hospital-related apps from unknown links or install applications received through suspicious WhatsApp messages. Users should rely on official hospital websites, verified applications or trusted contact numbers when booking medical services.

People should also avoid sharing OTPs, UPI PINs, passwords, bank details or other sensitive information with unknown individuals or websites. A genuine hospital or service provider should not ask customers to share confidential banking credentials or UPI PINs.

If a suspicious message, link or application is received, users should avoid interacting with it and report it to the appropriate authorities. Quick action can help prevent financial losses and reduce the risk of personal information being misused.

The warning highlights the need for extra caution when using online healthcare services. People are advised to verify the identity of a hospital or service provider before providing any personal or financial information.
