Case of Moral Policing in Dakshina Kannada District Amid Government Warnings

Despite strict warnings from the Siddaramaiah government and the establishment of a special wing to combat moral policing, an incident of moral policing was reported in the communally sensitive Dakshina Kannada district. The incident occurred near Peruvayi in Bantwal taluk, close to Mangaluru city on Thursday.

Local residents confronted two Muslim boys who were standing with a Hindu girl at a bus stop. The locals grew suspicious of the boys’ movements, questioning and recording them. The police were informed, and the Vitla police station took the boys into custody for an initial inquiry. Although the boys explained that they were students and knew each other, the incident has gone viral on social media, prompting further investigation by the police.
