Mets Beat Marlins 9-4

MIAMI (AP) — Rookie A.J. Ewing had a strong game with three hits and three RBIs, helping the New York Mets defeat the Miami Marlins 9-4 on Monday. The Mets trailed 4-4 in the fourth inning before Bo Bichette hit an RBI single to take the lead. Ewing then doubled to add two more runs, making the score 7-4.

The Mets’ offense was explosive, finishing with 16 hits. Marcus Semien doubled twice and drove in a run, while Bichette also singled twice and scored a run. Starting pitcher Jonah Tong had a solid outing, striking out four batters in the first five innings and allowing only four runs. Four relievers finished the game, combining for six strikeouts.

Marlins starter Eury Pérez struggled, giving up seven runs (five earned) and 10 hits over four innings. His poor performance included a three-run homer by Graham Pauley, which highlighted a big second inning for Miami that briefly gave them a 4-3 lead. Javier Sanoja also hit an RBI triple during the inning.

The Mets got off to a fast start with two unearned runs in the first inning due to defensive errors by the Marlins. Juan Soto scored on a throwing error, and Bo Bichette crossed home plate after another miscue.

In the next game, the Mets’ LHP Sean Manaea will face Marlins RHP Sandy Alcantara.
