Rinku Singh opens up on Test ambitions for India, wants Rohit-Virat to lift 2027 ODI WC
Indian batter Rinku Singh has expressed his desire to play Test cricket for India, despite currently being better known for his performances in the shorter formats. Speaking to JioStar, Rinku said he believes he has the ability to perform across all three formats and pointed to his domestic cricket record as evidence of his potential.
Rinku has become a familiar name in India’s limited-overs setup, particularly in T20 cricket. He has scored 702 runs in 35 T20I innings, maintaining a strong average and strike rate. In ODIs, he has played two matches and scored 55 runs.
His domestic record also shows experience in longer formats. Rinku has scored 3,757 runs in first-class cricket and 2,418 runs in List-A cricket. He hopes these performances will help him earn an opportunity to represent India in Test cricket.
Along with discussing his own career ambitions, Rinku spoke about Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli and his hope that the two senior Indian batters can help India win the 2027 ODI World Cup.
The 2027 World Cup is scheduled to be hosted by South Africa, Namibia and Zimbabwe. Rohit and Virat are expected to remain part of India’s ODI plans, with the team also preparing for upcoming matches against the West Indies.
Rinku said that many Indian cricket supporters would like to see Rohit and Virat lift the World Cup trophy again. India last won the ODI World Cup in 2011, and the 2027 tournament could be another major opportunity for the experienced players to contribute on the global stage.
Rohit has featured in three ODI World Cups between 2015 and 2023. His strongest individual World Cup campaign came in 2019, when he scored 648 runs in nine matches, including five centuries.
Virat Kohli has also built an outstanding World Cup record. He has scored 1,795 runs in World Cup matches, placing him among the leading run-scorers in the history of the tournament.
Their performances in ODI cricket have continued to attract attention. Rohit has scored 379 runs in his recent nine ODI innings, including a century. Virat, meanwhile, has maintained an impressive record while chasing targets, with 6,235 runs in successful ODI chases at an average of 89.07, according to the figures cited.
Rinku’s comments highlight two important aspects of his career: his ambition to move beyond limited-overs cricket and his admiration for two of India’s most experienced ODI batters. His next challenge will be to continue producing strong performances and make a case for a place in India’s Test setup.
